NBA Star Karl-Anthony Towns’ Mother Dies From Coronavirus Complications [Condolences]
Update #2 (April 13th): Very sad news. Jacqueline Towns, mother of Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns, has sadly died because of COVID-19-related complications. The announcement was made via the following statement:
“Jackie, as she was affectionately known among family and friends, had been battling the virus for more than a month when she succumbed on April 13th. Jackie was many things to many people—a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. The matriarch of the Towns family, she was an incredible source of strength; a fiery, caring, and extremely loving person, who touched everyone she met.”

Original Story: Karl-Anthony Towns is asking for prayers as his mother fights the coronavirus in the coma.
The NBA star shared an emotional video explaining his mother’s condition Wednesday morning (March 25).
He explained that both his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, and father Karl Towns, Sr., were tested for the virus, and while his father was released, his mom was admitted. While it takes a couple of days to get results, he said she had a fever as high as 103 degrees, and that it never dropped below 101.9 degrees, even with medicine.
“We always thought the next medicine would help. The next one would help. This is the one that’s going to get it done. This one will make sure to get it done.”
He said in the video,
“She was very uncomfortable. Her lungs were getting worse, her cough was getting worse. She was deteriorating in front of our eyes. We always thought the next medicine would help. This next one is going to get it done. … She was deteriorating daily.”
Unfortunately, she seemed to be recovering but then her lungs started to fail, so she was put on a medically induced coma and a ventilator. Karl-Anthony Towns said she hasn’t spoken with her since then.
“She was telling me things that I didn’t want to hear. I dismissed some things she was saying because it wasn’t something I wanted to hear.”
Still, he has hope that she’ll pull through.
He added the caption,
“This disease is real. This disease needs not to be taken lightly. Please protect your families, your loved ones, your friends, yourself. This disease, it’s deadly. We’re going to keep fighting, my side, me and my family, we’re going to keep fighting it. We’re going to beat it, we’re going to win. I hope my story helps.”
Prayers for Karl-Anthony Towns’ mother!
