Spike Lee Releases Script For Jackie Robinson Film That Was Never Made
Filmmaker Spike Lee, 63, is letting fans in on the script for his film on the life of Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was the first black professional baseball player to play in the Major League.
Even though Spike Lee never released the film, it’s still alive and contributing to Jackie Robinson’s legacy.
Spike Lee posted a video where he sat on a couch with a huge Jackie Robinson poster behind him. He captioned the clip:
“I Dug Deep Into Da 40 Acres Vault And Pulled Out This Script From One Of My EPIC Dream (Never Got Made) Projects-JACKIE ROBINSON. You Do Not Have To Be A Baseball Fan To Enjoy. This Script Is A Great American Story. Be Safe. Peace,Light And Love. And Dat’s Da “Brooklyn Dodger”Truth, Ruth. YA-DIG? SHO-NUFF”
He said in the video that his pick for the lead role was Denzel Washington.
“I’ve had a lot of time to think about stuff, life, what happened, what didn’t happen. I began thinking about my dream projects. I wrote a script for Jackie Robinson. I wanted Denzel [Washington] to play Jackie but Denzel said he was too old. “
The Oscar-Winning director added that the script is something for everyone, even those who aren’t sports fanatics.
“Don’t worry if you don’t like baseball, sports; this is a great American story. It never got made but I wanted to share this with you.”
He then revealed the script dates back to 1996.
