Tekashi 6ix9ine Officially Released, Leaves Jail Out Back Entrance Prior To Judge’s Public Announcement
Update #3. Prior to reports that he would be officially released, Tekashi had already been released from jail. According to the New York Daily News, 6ix9ine was released prior to Judge Paul A. Engelmayer’s ruling becoming public information. He is said to have exited away from the press, using a back entrance.
Update #2: A judge has officially signed off on Tekashi’s release from jail. According to reports, he will serve the first four months of supervised released on home incarceration. He will wear GPS monitoring (aka an ankle bracelet) to track his whereabouts.
Original Story: Tekashi 6ix9ine might be able to go home sooner than later because of the coronavirus.
In fact, he could go home as early as this week, according to recent reports.
Judge Paul Engelmayer recommended for Tekashi to get released because his asthma makes him more vulnerable to the virus. He said, according to NBC News, that he
“could not have known that the final four months of Mr. Hernandez’s sentence would be served at a time of a worldwide pandemic to which persons with asthma, like Mr. Hernandez, have heightened vulnerability.”

He continued,
“Had the Court known that sentencing Mr. Hernandez to serve the final four months of his term in a federal prison would have exposed him to a heightened health risk, the Court would have directed that these four months be served instead in home confinement.”
Inner City Press reported via Periscope Wednesday night (April 1) that Judge Paul Engelmayer kicked off the day with expressing his recommendation to grant Tekashi an early release.
He was initially supposed to be in prison until July 31. While the judge doesn’t have the pull to reduce Tekashi’s sentence, the government also agreed with Judge Engelmayer to release Tekashi, a move that could happen as early as today (April 2).

Meanwhile, Inner City Press also said other inmates who have requested early release have either been denied or had their ruling delayed. But Tekashi could have a more favorable ruling because he cooperated with authorities. The rapper infamously testified against his alleged fellow gang members with hopes of reducing his potential 47-year sentence for racketeering and other serious crimes last year.
While it’s not confirmed where he’ll go once he’s released, it’s speculated that he’ll be on house arrest.
What do you think about Tekashi possibly getting released early?
