Gayle King On Being Single During Quarantine: It Feels Very Scary
Civilians and celebrities alike are dealing with the harsh reality of being separated from family and friends while in a global state of quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. But there’s one group of people who may be taking it especially hard: single people. Divorced “CBS This Morning” host Gayle King says not having a partner during this scary time has been tough. She explained,
“It’s true, I’m single. And honest to God guys, I have never minded being single because my life is so full. I get to go to a lot of stuff. I know a lot of great people. So, I’ve never minded, but this is something… But now that this is it, it feels very, very daunting and actually very, very scary to me. Because I just think, there’s no end in sight. That’s what’s so troubling about this.”
She continued:
“I’ve talked to single friends about this, Sheryl- men and women! I had a male friend of mine who said, ‘I’m even a loner, and this is very troubling to me.’ I think there is a good story there about why this bothers us.”
Gayle King says that she’s worried that it will be a while before she sees her adult son and daughter, and best friend Oprah Winfrey, again:
“Just the thought that I don’t even know when I will see them in person is upsetting. I don’t know when Oprah and I will be able to visit is upsetting. So, all the people that I really cherish the most, I don’t know when that is going to be. That said, you know I sit here and knock on wood, healthy…people are dealing with a whole lot worse, and I don’t minimize that.”
Meanwhile, after two whole weeks of quarantining separately, Oprah and her longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham reunited for all of Instagram to see.
