Vanessa Bryant Celebrates Kobe Bryant Landing On The New York Times Bestseller
NBA superstar Kobe Bryant was much more than one of the greatest basketball players of all time. The shooting guard, who entered the National Basketball Association directly from high school and played his entire 20-season career with the Los Angeles Lakers was also an actor, rapper and author. In 2013, Bryant launched a production company called Granity Studios, which developed movies, television shows and books.
While Mamba’s five NBA championships are well known, some may be unaware that he won an Oscar and recently earned his fifth NYT bestseller. Kobe’s posthumously released The Wizenard Series: Season One book topped the children’s middle grade hardcover list.
Bryant, who died in a tragic January 26th helicopter crash alongside eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was celebrated by his wife, Vanessa on Instagram when she posted:
“5 championships. 5 NYT bestsellers. The Mamba strikes again. My husband @kobebryant would have been so proud to see his work continuing on with The #Wizenard Series: Season One. Thank you for
supporting his legacy!!!! #GranityStudios”

His first book, The Mamba Mentality: How I Play, looked back on his career with photos and his reflections. That was followed by several young adult novels through Granity Studios: The Wizenard Series: Training Camp, Legacy and the Queen, and Epoca: The Tree of Ecrof. A fourth novel, The Wizenard Series: Season One, was released in March 2020.
As previously reported, Kobe was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Vanessa and their oldest daughter Natalia Bryant spoke on the accomplishment, saying in an ESPN interview,
“We wish that he was here with us to celebrate but it’s definitely the peak of his NBA career.”
