Former NFL Quarterback & College Football Coach Tarvaris Jackson Dies In Car Crash

Former NFL and college football coach Tarvaris Jackson, a.k.a. TJack, unfortunately passed away after a fatal car accident Sunday (April 12).

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Tarvaris Jackson died after his 2012 Camaro veered off the road, struck a tree before flipping over. The accident occurred seven miles south of his hometown of Montgomery, Ala., at around 8:40 p.m. Central time.

Tarvaris Jackson was a second-round pick for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2006 NFL draft. He went on to play 10 seasons with the professional league, including stints with Buffalo Bills and two stints with the Seattle Seahawks. He was the backup QB to Russell Wilson from 2013-2015. He became the first backup QB in 13 years to play in a Super Bowl when he took the field for during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. The Seahawks went on to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history as they defeated the Broncos 43-8.

His NFL career ended following an arrest in June 2016 for allegedly pulling a gun on his wife. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charges were dropped two months later.

After leaving the NFL, Jackson struggled with financial and legal problems before landing on his feet as a quality control coach at his alma mater Alabama State University. He later was hired as the quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State University.

Tarvaris Jackson leaves behind his wife Lakitta Jackson, and three children – Tarvaris, Takayla, and Tyson.
