Pop Smoke’s Brother Reflects On Final Moment He Shared With The Late Rapper: He Said That He Loved Me
During 2020 we, unfortunately, lost many of our fan favorites, including rap star Pop Smoke. As previously reported, Pop Smoke, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, was killed on Feb. 19th, 2020, in Hollywood Hills during a home invasion. Recently, the late rapper’s bother Obasi Jackson sat down with Taraji P. Henson for her web series Peace of Mind with Taraji. During his interview, Mike Dee shared the last moment he had with his brother before he was murdered.
“That weekend right there, that Sunday, I had just seen him. We…Me, my mom, and [Pop Smoke], just sat in a room and talked for hours. Which had not happened in years. That last conversation was ‘Okay, I know my brother loves me and he knows I definitely love him.’ He said that he loved me.”
Mike Dee continued and shared that he’s currently in the stage of “pushing through it” in his grieving process. When asked to explain what that looks like he said,
“I cry. I’m a firm believer that men, black men too, should be vulnerable.”
“Black men should be vulnerable and allow themselves to open up and show the world what they’re feeling and who they truly are. Because we’ve been suppressed. We’ve been locked up and that’s where all these barbaric kinds of actions come from. My mind can’t even grasp onto it sometimes.”
He continued,
“When does it stop? It’s not just Pop Smoke. It’s not just King Von. It’s not just Nipsey.”
