Lee Daniels’ ‘The Wonder Years’ Reboot Gets Pilot Order ABC
Lee Daniels will soon have another show to add to his resume.
According to new reports, his reboot of the classic show The Wonder Years will move forward with ABC as the network ordered a formal pilot for the series. The original show, which featured a white-middle-class family in the 1960s, will have a different take on Lee Daniels’ revival.
This time around, it will show a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Ala., also during the 1960s, and how they made sure that era was “the wonder years” for them. The show’s original creator, Neal Marlens, is on board as a consultant, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 20th Century Fox Television will also produce.
Saladin K. Patterson of The Bernie Mac Show, The Big Bang Theory and Frasier, will write the script and serve as executive producer with Lee Daniels Entertainment president Marc Velez.
Lee Daniels, Marc Velez, and Saladin Patterson, along with Fred Savage, who starred in the original, reportedly brought the idea to now-former ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke.
Lee Daniels reassured fans on Instagram Monday, Feb. 1st:
“This will be a GREAT reboot! Let’s go ABC!”

News of Lee Daniels’ reboot made headlines last summer.
Lee Daniels will certainly be busy as he’s also set to produce the upcoming Waiting To Exhale series, inspired by the popular 1995 film.
