Eddie Murphy Plans On Making His Return To Stand-Up Comedy Once The Coronavirus Pandemic Ends
Eddie Murphy has plans to return to stand-up comedy. Many people first met actor/comedian Eddie Murphy during his time on the popular sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” in the 80s. Since then the 59-year-old entertainer has done plenty in his career including releasing his hit song ‘Party All the Time’ in 1985. Recently the ‘Coming To America’ star joined Kevin Hart for SiriusXM’s podcast Comedy Gold Minds with Kevin Hart, where he told his friend that he plans on making his return to the stand-up world.
During their conversation, Kevin Hart teased Eddie Murphy for taking a seemingly long hiatus from stand-up comedy. He jokingly said,
“Eddie, I don’t like talking to you about stand-up no more. I’m not fallin’ for the f*ckin’ trap. I’m sick of you, I’m sick of your sh*t. … Every time we talk, he leaves me with a piece of information, and I feel like I got gold.”
Eddie Murphy responded to Kevin Hart and revealed that he planned on making his return to stand-up last year but the pandemic placed his plans on pause. He said,
“My plan was to do Dolemite, Saturday Night Live, Coming 2 America and then do stand-up. And then the pandemic hit, and it shut the whole sh*t down. Then I was going – the whole time last year I would have been out working on my act trying to get my sh*t right, and then the whole thing shut down.”
He added that once the pandemic ends he wants to continue with his plan. He said,
“Hey, when the pandemic is over and it’s safe for everybody to go out and do it, then the plan is to do it.”
