Offset Claims Migos Is Responsible For Trap Music Going Mainstream
Offset believes Migos deserves its flowers for supposedly popularizing trap music.
Recently, the rapper sat down with Billboard to discuss the upcoming Migos album, Culture III. The album is set to release this Friday (June 11th), and the members of Migos have been busy promoting it on social media.
During the interview, however, Offset quickly brought up how he believes Migos‘ contributions to the trap genre are overlooked. He claimed:
“We made this trap [style] go pop. They don’t talk about that. We made trap go pop talking about selling pounds and bricks, and we hit Billboard No. 1. Hip-hop artists weren’t going No. 1 like that, but now it just be ‘bang, bang, bang.'”
Then, the rapper proceeded to discuss his high hopes for the Culture III album, saying:
“We not just doing one verse and one verse — we’re switching it up. We doing things other people can’t do because we the only group. We got creative with our flows, so we could stamp another [movement]. We feel like we gonna lead the pack with this album.”
The album will be the first Migos album since 2018’s Culture II. Since then, Migos‘ members–Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff–have each released solo projects: Father of 4, Quavo Huncho, and The Last Rocket respectively. Recently, the group revealed the tracklisting for Culture III, which will contain various features.
