Aaliyah’s Mother Postpones Day Of Remembrance & Love For The Late Singer ‘Due To The Behavior Of An Individual’ Who Visited Her ‘Resting Place To Promote A Book’
Last week (Aug. 20), fans were elated when the music of late artist Aaliyah, was released on streaming services.
But the excitement was short-lived after her mother, Diane Haughton, took to the official Aaliyah Instagram to inform fans that her plans to celebrate her daughter on the 20th anniversary of her passing have been postponed.

In a lengthy Instagram post, she wrote:
“Dear Special Ones, First and foremost I want to thank my dear “Special Ones”(The Fans) that have been with us for years and supported every endeavor that came our way without hesitation.”
She added,
“However, due to the behavior of an individual that has been to Aaliyah’s resting place in order to promote a book, I have been forced to make a drastic change at Ferncliff Cemetery and Mausoleum.”

In the post, her mother added,
“This person interrupted all my thoughts and ideas to make August 25, 2021, a day of remembrance and love for my daughter. Please accept my sincere apologies for this and know I love you and always will. With Aaliyah and Her Comrades in out hearts.”
As previously reported, journalist and author Kathy Iandoli wrote Baby Girl: Better Known As Aaliyah. The book, which was released on Aug. 17, explores the alleged abusive relationship between Aaliyah and R. Kelly, and her life up until the devastating plane crash.
At this time, there is no indication as to who the post is about or a response. But Kathy Iandoli denied taking snapshots at the late singer’s gravesite.

Aaliyah, who was signed to a record label with her uncle, released her debut album Age Aint Nothing But A Number in 1994. Unfortunately, the scandal of her alleged marriage to singer R. Kelly, who is currently on trial for sex trafficking, overshadowed her music and most of her career.

She went on to release two additional albums, One In a Million and Aaliyah, which featured Rock the Boat, the singer and actress’ last single before passing.
Aaliyah, also infectiously known as Baby Girl, died in a plane crash on Aug. 25, 2001. In honor of the 20th anniversary, her former label, Background Records, released her music on streaming services.
Do you feel her mom was right to postpone plans for the 20th anniversary of Aaliyah’s passing? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
