Nicki Minaj Set To Perform + Receive The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award At 2022 MTV VMAs

Barbz stand up! Nicki Minaj is getting ready to add yet another award to her collection.

The “Seeing Green” artist is set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. She will also be gracing the VMAs stage with a performance for the first time since 2018.

Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount+, said,

“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry. She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki’.”

Nicki Minaj also celebrated her achievement to her 25.6 million followers on Twitter. In a tweet, she said,

“I’m receiving the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 #VMAs! You don’t want to miss my performance – Sunday August 28 at 8p on @MTV Aaaahhhhhh.”

Nicki Minaj is a 17-time nominee and five-time VMAs winner, taking home her first Moon Person for best hip-hop video in 2011. This year, she is up for a VMA in the best hip-hop category for her single “Do We Have a Problem?,” which features fellow rapper Lil Baby.

Artists are honored with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Award for their extraordinary accomplishments and significant influence on music videos and popular culture. In contrast to other awards presented at the VMAs, the Vanguard Award is a gold-plated Moon Person.

In this past, the award has been given to several big name performers, including Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliott. David Bowie, The Beatles and director Richard Lester also shared the accolade at the first-ever VMAs in September 1984.
