Terrence Howard Plans To Retire, Says He’s ‘Given The Very Best’ As An Actor: This Is The End For Me
Terrence Howard may be hanging up his acting hat for good.
Terrence Howard has been in the entertainment business since the early 90s. Over the years the Academy Award-nominated actor has appeared in numerous hit films including “Hustle & Flow,” “Ray,” “Iron Man,” and “The Walk.” During a recent red carpet appearance in Los Angeles for the premiere of his latest project “The Best Man: The Final Chapters,” Terrence Howard revealed that retirement is in his near future. He said,
“This is the end for me. This is the end for me. I don’t know if it’s the end for the rest of them.”
He continued,
“I retired two years ago, for the most part. I was done. … I asked Sidney Poitier 10 years ago does he want to do any more work, and he said, ‘Why would I spend my last 10 years doing an impersonation of myself?’ And that’s what I’ve gotten to.”
As you may recall, in 2019, as the final season of “Empire” neared, Howard, 53, shared that he was done with acting. At the time he said he was “running away as quickly as possible.”
However, instead of exiting Hollywood after his Fox series came to an end, Howard stuck around and continued to act on the big screen. According to reports, since 2019 he’s appeared in four films and has 3 more on the way that are currently in post-production.
During his latest interview, he continued and elaborated on why he’s retiring.
“I’ve gotten to the point where now I’ve given the very best that I have as an actor. Now I’m enjoying watching other new talent come around, and I don’t want to do an impersonation of myself.”
When asked if he was ready to hand the reins over, Howard replied,
“Yes, there’s some better actors out there that can do things that I was never able to do,” he said. “So, I want to applaud them, I want to be excited about what they do.”
In addition to his upcoming films, you can watch Howard reprises his role as Quentin for “The Best Man: Final Chapters,” which premieres on Peacock on Dec. 22.
