Producer Metro Boomin Sells Part Of His Music Catalog For Nearly $70 Million
Metro Boomin wants some more money!
The hit producer (real name Leland Tyler Wayne) recently sold Shamrock Capital a part of his publishing catalog for close to $70 million.
Heroes & Villains, Metro Boomin‘s second full-length album, has been a commercial and streaming success. The St. Louis artist’s biggest record in terms of first-week sales was the R&B and hip-hop collection, which was released in December. It was also his second album to top the all-genre albums list at the time of its release.

Morgan Freeman narrates the celebrity-studded album, which also includes verses from Takeoff, 21 Savage, Future, A$AP Rocky, Gunna, Chris Brown, and Young Thug.
The acquisition of Metro Boomin‘s catalog comes as Shamrock continues to make significant investments in catalog sales, expanding a portfolio that already contains the master recordings for Taylor Swift‘s first six albums, which it purchased from Scooter Braun‘s Ithaca Holdings in 2020.
And Metro isn’t the only music industry figure to sell their catalog for some big bucks.
Grammy Award-winning rapper Future sold a portion of his music catalog to Influence Media Partners in September 2022. The acquisition included his work from 2004 to 2020, reportedly spanning 612 tracks — such as the Drake featured tracks “Life Is Good” and “Jumpman” — as well as work he’s done with other artists like Kendrick Lamar (“King’s Dead”), Rihanna (“Selfish”), and The Weeknd (“Low Life”). The deal also includes Future’s own hit “Mask Off.”
Iggy Azalea also made a similar decision, reportedly selling her master recording and publishing catalog to Domain Capital for an eight-figure amount.

Canadian native Justin Bieber sold 100 percent of his publishing — as well as his artist royalties from his master recordings and neighboring rights — to Hipgnosis Songs in a deal reportedly priced at a little over $200 million. It currently remains the largest rights sale for any artist of Justin Bieber‘s generation.
