Kyrie Irving Addresses The Way He’s Seemingly Portrayed By The Media: ’15 Guys On The Team & I’m The One Cancer In The Room?’

Kyrie Irving is tired of the press trying to ruin his reputation in the NBA.  

According to reports, Kyrie Irving expressed his anger during a recent stream on Twitch regarding the controversies that seemingly played into his abrupt leave from the Brooklyn Nets. The Dallas Mavericks guard disclaimed that people don’t know the real him and mocked those who call him “woke” and someone “who doesn’t fit into the mold.” Imitating the scrutiny surrounding him, he said:

“’What’s Ky gonna do this summer? Does Ky like Dallas? What happened in Brooklyn? What happened in Boston? What happened in Cleveland?,'” 

He continued:

“‘Why did you leave LeBron? … Why did you leave all of these people?’ … Me, you would think I’m the cancer in the locker room, as if basketball is an individual sport that one person is supposed to take blame for. It’s 15 guys on the team, and I’m the one cancer in the room? That’s what it’s portrayed as, that’s what you guys get that’s what they have fun doing. That’s why these older, bitter gentlemen and women keep my name in their mouths every day.”

During the stream, Kyrie Irving allegedly revealed that he doesn’t consider himself to be “free” when “kids are still working in the cobalt mines in the Congo, making Teslas.”

The 30-year-old was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Mavericks last month.

Kyrie received a lot of backlash when he reportedly refused to get vaccinated during the 2020-21 season. As you may recall, because of his decision he wasn’t able to play home games with his then-team until NYC mayor Eric Adams altered the COVID-19 laws.

In addition to that, Kyrie faced more criticism last year when he took to social media to promote the 2018 film “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” which has been viewed to be antisemitic. His support of the film led to a five-game suspension without pay, a mandated apology to Jewish leaders, mandatory attendance at sensitivity training, and he made a $500,000 donation to anti-hate groups.

Even though Kyrie ultimately apologized for promoting the film, the damage was already done and Nike decided to terminate their partnership with him.

On Wednesday (Mar. 8) amid a game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Kyrie had a small back-and-forth with a fan that trolled him. The professional athlete said: 

“Nothing like fans telling me how to play basketball. How does that make sense?” 

The fan replied:

“Do you want me to tell you how to post on Amazon?”
