Sad news!

Music icon Tina Turner has died at the age of 83. The unfortunate news was confirmed today (May 24) via Tina Turner’s official Facebook page. The statement revealed,

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

Tina Turner was born in Brownsville, Tennessee on November 26, 1939. She reportedly started off her career under the name Little Ann, which was seemingly a nod to her birth name, Anna Mae Bullock.

However, after her first record “Boxtop,” she rebranded as Tina Turner and dropped her 1960 duet “A Fool in Love” with her ex-husband Ike Turner. For years the pair performed as a musical duo, releasing multiple hit tracks together, including “Tra La La La La,” “I Idolize You,” and “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine.” Unfortunately, behind the scenes, things weren’t as perfect as they seemed and Ike Turner was reportedly physically and emotionally abusing Tina

In the summer of 1976, she filed for divorce, which was finalized on March 29, 1978. Following their separation, Tina worked on securing (what many have called) one of the greatest comebacks in music history. She won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her 1984 track “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”

Throughout her career, she sold 100 million records worldwide, was the first Black artist and the first woman to be on the cover of Rolling Stone, and was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – once with Ike Turner in 1991 and again as a solo artist in 2021.

As expected, many people have taken to social media to share their reactions to the news of Tina Turner’s passing.
