Bronny James On What It’s Like Being The Son Of NBA Star LeBron James: ‘A Lot Of Criticism Gets Thrown My Way’

Being the child of a famous person can come with a lot of pressure.

During a newly published interview with NBA Central, 19-year-old Bronny James opened up about what it’s like being the eldest son of professional basketball player LeBron James, 39. He shared,

“It’s tough. A lot of criticism gets thrown my way, but you know, I’ve got to deal with it.”

As previously reported, Bronny James kicked off his college career with the University of Southern California. Things for the freshman player haven’t been the smoothest since graduating high school. Last July, Bronny James was rushed to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest during basketball practice. In November he was finally cleared to return to his team. However, his short time with the USC Trojans will be coming to an end soon.

Last month Bronny declared for the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. He also entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Continuing in his interview, Bronny said of his critics,

“They don’t know what I’ve been through. But yeah, I just try to make the best of [the] opportunities that’s given to me.”

When asked about his choice to enter the NBA draft so quickly, he said,

“You know I always want to end up where I’m happy the most. [My] mom has always told me you know, ‘take me where my heart wants me to be,’ and I just found happiness in what I’m doing right now, and I feel like that’s where I want myself to be at.”

The 2024 NBA Draft will be held on June 26-27.
