Cynthia Erivo Reflects On Frustrated Response To ‘Wicked’ Poster Edits: ‘I’m Really Protective Of The Role’
Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has had some time to cool off after blasting fans over edits they made to the movie’s official poster earlier this month.
While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the English actress/singer explained what fueled her heated response, stating:
“I think I’m really protective of the role…I am passionate about it, and I know that the fans are passionate about it, and I think, for me, it was just like a human moment of wanting to protect little Elphaba. It was a human moment.”
Noting that her remarks weren’t necessarily a “clap back,” she added:
“I probably should’ve called my friends, but it’s fine.”

Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande
Cynthia Erivo initially stated that the edit, which covered her eyes to make the image more reflective of the original playbill, was the “wildest, most offensive thing” she’d seen and that it was an attempt to “erase” her.
While her co-star Ariana Grande later supported her vehement response, the pop star acknowledged that the fans were likely just having fun and didn’t mean any harm.
