300 People Have Applied For 17 Sleeping Pods In San Francisco As Rent Prices Skyrocket
Brownstone Shared Housing CEO James Stallworth has revealed that 300 people have applied for the remaining 17 beds at the company’s “sleeping pods” in downtown San Francisco, which cost $700 a month.
Brownstone Shared Housing describes its mission as “providing low-cost housing in the most expensive cities.” Its bunkbed-style “pods” measure approximately 3.5 ft by 4 ft by 6.5 ft, large enough to fit a twin mattress. The pods come with privacy curtains, inside lighting, and charging ports.
The initiative first went viral last year. Despite coding hurdles in 2024, Brownstone Shared Housing continues to service people in a community where the average rent is reportedly $4,000.
