CDC Confirms First Severe Bird Flu Case In The U.S.
The CDC has reported the first severe bird flu case in the U.S., involving a Louisiana patient over 65 with underlying conditions. The individual, exposed to sick and dead backyard birds, is in critical condition with severe respiratory symptoms.
Genomic analysis linked the infection to a bird flu strain spreading among wild birds and poultry in the U.S., distinct from strains affecting dairy cows.
Since April, 61 human cases have been reported in the U.S., primarily mild and linked to direct contact with infected animals. The CDC stresses that the risk to the general public remains low but advises those in contact with birds or livestock to take precautions.
