Biden Administration Is ‘Exploring Options’ To Keep TikTok Active In The U.S. Amid Potential Ban
President Joe Biden’s administration is exploring options to prevent TikTok from going dark, even though the app’s ban is set to take effect this Sunday (Jan. 19).
A White House official addressed the situation, stating the team is “exploring options” to implement the law in a way that doesn’t force TikTok to go completely dark in a few days, adding:
“Americans shouldn’t expect to see TikTok suddenly banned on Sunday.”

The administration is under pressure from both lawmakers and citizens, with some urging Biden not to enforce the legislation. The law would require TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app to an American company before Sunday in order for it to remain available in the U.S.
Meanwhile, incoming President Trump’s team is also showing interest in saving the app, with his national security adviser hinting at potential interventions.
President Biden signed the law in April, citing national security concerns and fears that China could access U.S. user data. The law also grants the president the option to extend the divestment deadline, but the issue could ultimately remain unresolved without a sale.
Do you think the Biden administration will be successful in preventing a full shutdown of TikTok?
