‘Juwanna Mann’ Star Miguel A. Núñez Jr. Blasts Critics Of Black Men Wearing Women’s Clothes In Comedy Films: ‘Must Be Something Wrong w/ You’
Miguel A. Núñez Jr. had some strong words for those who take issue with Black actors portraying women in comedy.
In a recent interview with TMZ, the “Juwanna Mann” star weighed in on Martin Lawrence’s comment about being comfortable wearing a dress for a role. He agreed with his fellow comedian but pointed out that Black actors are often scrutinized more harshly than their white counterparts for doing drag in comedic roles. He said:
“I hear all this about [emasculating] men, we only hear that sh*t from n***as. Period. We only hear that from us. They don’t come out against each other. I don’t get it.”
Núñez highlighted white actors like Robin Williams in “Mrs. Doubtfire” and Dustin Hoffman in “Tootsie,” who received praise for their drag performances, while Black actors like him, Lawrence, and Jamie Foxx faced backlash.
“I don’t get the whole argument… They say the [emasculation] of men… I don’t see it that way. I did ‘Juwanna Mann’ and I enjoyed it. It was a hell of a funny movie… Those are all comedies, and if you’re putting more into that, it means there’s something wrong in your life. That means there must be something wrong with you.”
According to Núñez, it’s comedy, not emasculation, and thinks anyone who takes it as something more needs to reevaluate their own views.
