Ohio Couple Welcomes Baby From Embryo Frozen Over 30 Years Ago

An Ohio couple has welcomed a baby born from an embryo frozen in 1994.

Lindsey Pierce, 35, and her husband Tim Pierce, 34, recently became parents to Thaddeus Daniel Pierce via IVF. After struggling with infertility, the couple used an adopted embryo that had been frozen for over 30 years, according to MIT Technology Review.

Thaddeus is now believed to be one of the longest-frozen embryos to result in a live birth. Medical experts say age isn’t a concern when embryos are properly frozen and screened.

On the historic nature of the birth, Lindsey told the Associated Press, “We didn’t go into this thinking about records… we just wanted to have a baby.”
