John Singleton—Taraji P. Henson & Tyrese Visit Him In Hospital + Daughter Says He’s “Not In A Coma”

Fans were saddened and shocked to learn that legendary director John Singleton suffered a stroke last week and is currently fighting to get back to health while in a coma. Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese (co-stars in Singleton’s 2001 film Baby Boy) recently visited him in the hospital with positive news about his current state—meanwhile his daughter claims he’s not even in a coma, despite reports.

As fans, friends and colleagues continue to send prayers and well wishes to director John Singleton, there are conflicting reports regarding his current health, specifically whether or not he’s actually in a coma. However, before we get into that, let’s discuss Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese going to visit Singleton while he’s currently in the hospital.

Henson recently shared an emotional post on Instagram regarding her recent visit to Singleton along with frequent co-star and friend Tyrese. She also provided a positive update on how he’s doing while hospitalized.

In the photo’s caption, she wrote:

“Visited you today. Me and @tyrese prayed so hard over you. You heard my voice and jumped up. I HAVE HOPE AND FAITH BECAUSE I KNOW THAT #GODIS. Keep praying EVERYBODY for our beloved @johnsingleton”

Meanwhile, things between Singleton’s oldest daughter Cleopatra, 19, and his mother are reportedly getting very messy, resulting in conflicting reports about Singleton actually being in a coma or not. Last week, Cleopatra Singleton and the director’s mother Sheila Ward were reportedly at odds over who should be managing his business affairs while he remains in the hospital.

Cleopatra revealed the situation in court documents, saying:

“My father’s allowed his mother to stay in that position out of fear and obligation to her as she’s bullied and abandoned my father since he was a small child, leaving him emotionally defenseless.”

Fast forward to the present, and now Cleopatra is stating that her father isn’t actually in a coma at all—which may confirm Taraji writing in her post that Singleton “jumped up” when he heard her voice.

Cleopatra, through a declaration filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, stated that doctors are still determining her father’s condition, saying:

“My father is not in a coma. [Doctors] do not have a concrete diagnosis, [but] my dad is progressing every day. My father is breathing on his own. He is only medically sedated to keep his blood pressure low and allow the vessels in his brain to heal.”

Due to the family rift between Cleopatra and Sheila, Singleton’s daughter is suggesting that another family member, possibly his father or oldest son, assume the role of his conservator instead of Sheila. Cleopatra is dealing with all these decisions while she continues her sophomore year at Xavier University in Louisiana.
