Halle Berry Broke 3 Ribs While Filming ‘John Wick 3’

Movie making isn’t always pretty, in fact some serious physical injuries can occur—just ask Halle Berry. The actress is opening up about the injuries she suffered while on set filming the upcoming action film John Wick 3.

While promoting the third installment of the action movie series starring Keanu Reeves, John Wick 3, Halle Berry revealed that sometimes pain comes with the territory when you’re filming a high-intensity action movie—and she’s got the scars to prove it. She also admitted that training for the film allowed her to get into the best physical shape of her life, even as strenuous as it was.

Speaking on the various training she had to go through, Berry tells EXTRA:

“Hours and hours of stunt training, it’s gun training, it’s dog training, then it’s just strength training on top of that with my trainer, and it’s watching my diet.”

Of the physical injuries she suffered, specifically broken ribs, Berry took it like a champ:

“I broke three ribs when I was rehearsing for ‘John Wick’… It’s like a badge of honor for me, we don’t know how it happened… I worked for a little while with broken ribs until I could no longer do it. He waited for me to heal, when I came back I felt better.”

She also spoke highly of doing her fight scenes with Reeves, saying:

“It was pretty amazing. It was a little terrifying at first because he’s so damn good, and I wanted to be on the same level as him. I didn’t want to disappoint him.”

John Singleton

Ending the interview on a serious note, Halle Berry took the time out to acknowledge director John Singleton’s stroke, revealing how he impacted her career and sending him well wishes:

“I’m just heartbroken, he’s one of the good guys. He paved the way for so many people and artists of color, I know for me he did, and he has been someone special in my life. Sending lots of prayers to him and his family.”

John Wick 3 opens in theaters nationwide on May 17th.
