R. Kelly’s Lawyer Suggests Sending Ex-Wife Drea Kelly To Jail & Fined For Breaking Confidentiality Agreement
R. Kelly‘s attorneys are reportedly asking that his ex-wife dancer/activist Andrea Kelly stop criticizing the “I Believe I Can Fly” crooner in public. They also want Andrea to be jailed, claiming that she is breaking the confidentiality agreement that was made in their divorce settlement.
Reportedly, the pair are not supposed to make any negative remarks against each other since they legally divorced ten years ago. However, R. Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg filed a motion on Tuesday (July 2nd) where he says that Drea is not cooperating with the agreement set in place by
“appearing on countless media outlets disparaging Robert Kelly and making accusations and charges involving Robert.”
In January 2019, Drea appeared in the six-part documentary titled “Surviving R. Kelly” where she shocked audiences with her revelations of alleged abuse and manipulation during her union with the R&B singer-songwriter.
The couple got married in 1996, just a year after his marriage to the late Aaliyah was annulled.
Andrea filed for divorce from Kelly in 2006, but the divorce wasn’t finalized until three years later.
Greenberg is also using the fact that Drea is appearing on Growing Up Hip-Hop and doing numerous interviews in the media against, claiming that she is profiting off the downfall of R. Kelly in the press. Greenberg says,
“She should further be required to disclose each and every appearance she has made where she has discussed Robert Kelly, divulge all income earned as a result thereof, be fined by this court an amount equal to or in excess of the amount she has earned from a breach of the agreement, and jailed.”
Drea’s lawyer, Alison Motta, defended Drea saying that R. Kelly violated the settlement agreements for years. Motta stated,
“Robert has not been complying with that provision of their agreement for years, even put out a book, “Soulacoaster” with details of their marriage and divorce — he essentially waived that provision and is now using it as a vindictive sword to punish her for asserting her right in domestic relations court and forcing him to comply with his financial obligations. He can no longer control her with physical abuse so he’s resorting to methods of control and punishment that can be inflicted from afar.”
As previously reported, over the past year R. Kelly and his wife have been in a legal battle regarding the singer’s failure to pay child support for which he was briefly jailed for, all while facing a slew of charges for criminal sexual abuse against several women, some of whom were minors.
The next hearing for this court date is on July 10th although its reported that
“it was not clear whether Greenberg’s demand for an immediate injunction against Andrea Kelly meant that there might be a hearing scheduled before then.”
