The Rock Questions Donald Trump Amid National Protests: Where Are You?!
Professional wrestler turned actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is questioning the whereabouts of President Donald Trump.
In an 8-minute video posted to his Instagram page, The Rock inquires about the presence of Donald Trump during the national and global protests for justice in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Minneapolis, Minnesota resident who was pinned to the ground for more than eight minutes by the knee of former cop Derek Chauvin, who was charged with second-degree murder. Three other now-former Minneapolis cops, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Keirnan Lane, and Tou Thao, have now been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
The Rock‘s video shows him standing in a room wearing a black shirt with a few family photos behind him and he questions the President’s leadership at this time in history:
Where is our leader at this time? At this time when our country is down on its knees begging, pleading, hurt, angry, frustrated, in pain….begging and pleading with its arms out just wanting to be heard. Begging and pleading and praying for change. Where are you? Where is our compassionate leader who’s gonna step up to our country?
He explains that while all lives do matter, currently black lives are more at stake:
So, of course, all lives matter but in this moment right now, this defining, pivotal, explosive moment where our country is down on its knees…the floorboards of our country are becoming unhinged. In this moment, we must say the words: Black. Lives. Matter.
He goes on to question President Donald Trump‘s recent decision to deploy the military to the many protests and marches that have arisen across America:
There is military force that has been deployed on our own people. Looters? Yes. Criminals? Absolutely. But on protesters, who are begging and pleading? On protesters who are in pain? You know, you would be surprised how people in pain would respond when you say to them, ‘I care about you.’ When you say to them, ‘I’m listening to you.'”
The Rock‘s caption for his post emphasizes some of the same sentiments he discusses in the video:
Our country is crippled and on its knees, begging to be heard and pleading for change.
Where is our compassionate leader?
The leader who unifies and inspires our country at our most painful time when we need it the most.
The leader who steps up and takes full accountability for our country and embraces every color in it.
The leader who picks our country up off its knees and says you have my word – we got this – and together, change will happen.
Where are you?
Because we’re all here.
Maybe one day that galvanizing leader will emerge.
Either way, the process to change has already begun.
