Michaela Coel Has Another Show In The Works With BBC Following Success Of ‘I May Destroy You’ Series
Congratulations are in order for British actress/screenwriter Michaela Coel, who has a new show in the works with BBC. Michaela Coel, 33, received a lot of praise last year following the release of her drama series ‘I May Destroy You’, which she wrote, co-directed, executive produced and starred in. The hit series premiered in June of last year on both BBC and HBO. Today, May 19, BBC announced that they will be working again with Michaela Coel for a new upcoming series.
So far little details about Michaela Coel’s latest project have been shared, but the director of drama for the broadcasting corporation, Piers Wenger, gave a hint on what fans can expect. He said,
“[The project is] truly in Michaela’s head and it’s not for me to second guess that too much at this point. It’s relatively early stages but I just wanted to let everybody know, for the fans of ‘I May Destroy You’, that there was a new show coming along.”
He added,
“What relationship that show will have with the original series… there is a relationship between ‘Chewing Gum’ and ‘I May Destroy You’, there is a sort of through line to Michaela’s thinking and I suspect there may be elements but it’s really too early to say anything too specific.”
‘I May Destroy You’ isn’t the only hit show that Michaela Coel has under her belt. She’s previously won a Bafta award for creating and starring in the comedy sitcom ‘Chewing Gum’.
