Tyler Perry & T.D. Jakes Purchase Remaining Land At Fort McPherson, Will Transform To Entertainment District & Affordable Housing
Tyler Perry and Bishop T.D. Jakes are making major moves.
The filmmaker has purchased 37 more acres of land at Fort McPherson, which he will turn into an entertainment and shopping district.
T.D. Jakes also made his own purchase on the lot and bought 94 of the remaining acres, according to Deadline.
The Fort McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority greenlighted the purchases yesterday (June 17th).
The amount they bought it for was not made public.
When Tyler Perry’s deal is complete, he’ll own nearly 368 acres. The entertainment district is slated to be next to Tyler Perry Studios, which currently sits on 338 acres on the lot.
His new property will feature a “theatre district, retail, restaurants and plenty of employment opportunities,” according to a press release.
He said,
“Today is a good day. I’m grateful for the opportunity this gives Tyler Perry Studios to extend our footprint in Atlanta and create more opportunities for the people of Southwest Atlanta with restaurants, entertainment venues, and other business opportunities. I’m looking forward to collaborating with my friend T.D. Jakes on his separate but adjacent project and I also want to thank Governor Kemp and Mayor Bottoms for their continued efforts to make Atlanta a better place.”
T.D. Jakes said of his purchase will create “real estate and programs in response to the growing, nationwide need for affordable, attainable, and workforce housing.”
