Stephanie Mills Alleges She & Chaka Khan Were Going To Do A Verzuz But ‘The Verzuz People Weren’t Interested’ + Her Manager Clarifies That Something Is In The Works
Was a Verzuz between legendary singers Stephanie Mills and Chaka Khan rejected?
During an appearance on The Breakfast Club earlier this week, Stephanie Mills revealed she and the Through The Fire singer were both on board to celebrate their music via a Verzuz battle, but things didn’t move forward because of a lack of interest.
She said,
“We tried. George, who’s Chaka’s manager and my manager reached out to them but they weren’t interested.”
She clarified that:
“Chaka was interested. We were willing to do it. The Verzuz people weren’t interested. Yeah, they weren’t interested… They were not interested.”
When asked when the idea was rejected, she said it was “right before” Xscape and SWV did a Verzuz on May 8th.

She added,
“But I wouldn’t do it now anyway.”
Her manager, Amp Harris, then came on camera to provide clarity and revealed they’re working on something now. But Stephanie Mills continued saying,
“I don’t want to do it.”
Still, her manager made it clear she’s going to participate and it looks like things ended on a positive note.
She even shared a video of the moment with the caption,
“What had happened was [laughing Emojis]”
