Barack Obama Downsizing His Birthday Party Plans Amid Public Criticism & Rising Delta Variant Cases
Barack Obama‘s birthday plans have recently hit a bump in the road.
Earlier today (Wednesday, August 4th), a spokeswoman for Barack Obama stated he would “significantly scale back” on the plans for his 60th birthday party. Barack Obama originally planned for a birthday bash in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. However, due to rising COVID-19 cases and the delta variant, Obama has changed his plans. The spokeswoman stated:
“The outdoor event was planned months ago in accordance with all public guidelines and [COVID] safeguards in place. Due to the new spread of the Delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends.”
This decision came amid heavy criticism regarding Obama‘s original plans. For instance, just yesterday (Tuesday, August 3rd), Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker blasted Obama‘s large-scale birthday plans, stating:
“If I were invited I would have declined. Because I think 700 people at an event like that is not a good idea. It’s a judgement call all the way around, but that’s the beauty of judgement calls. We can all make our own decision about what we think is most appropriate to us.”
While today (August 4th) is Barack Obama‘s birthday, his party is slated to go down this Saturday (August 7th). However, his guest list will allegedly be scaled back in order to comply with new public health guidelines regarding COVID-19.
