Oprah Winfrey Speaks On Dr. Oz’s Republican Senate Campaign In Pennsylvania: It’s Up To The Residents
Oprah Winfrey has broken her silence on Dr. Oz running for Senate!
Over the years Dr. Oz, 61, (full name Mehmet Cengiz Öz) has become a household name thanks to his popular daytime medical talk show ‘The Dr. Oz Show,’ which is co-produced by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions/Harpo Studios. Prior to having his own show, Dr. Oz gained a following by being a recurring guest on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’
As successful as the TV industry has been for Dr. Oz he is now turning his attention to politics. Last month the Harvard alumnus announced that he would be running to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.). According to Dr. Oz, the coronavirus pandemic inspired him to run for U.S. Senate. He said,
“We have not managed our crises as effectively as past generations. During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That’s why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal.”
Oprah Winfrey, 67, recently gave her first comment on her former guest throwing his hat in the race. Through a spokesperson she said,
“One of the great things about our democracy is that every citizen can decide to run for public office. Mehmet Oz has made that decision. And now it’s up to the residents of Pennsylvania to decide who will represent them.”
Oprah Winfrey’s comment towards Dr. Oz may have been a little vague but she isn’t against using her influence to show her support for politicians. The famed businesswoman has previously endorsed former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in their White House bids.
