Nas Hit With Lawsuit For Posting Throwback Photo Of Him & Tupac On Instagram
A throwback Instagram post has landed Nas in a little bit of legal trouble.
According to Radar Online, a hip-hop photographer named Al Pereira filed a lawsuit on February 2 against 48-year-old rapper Nas, born Nasir Jones, in federal court over an Instagram post. The legal issue started in 2020 after Nas shared an image from 1993 of himself hanging out with 2Pac at Club Amazon in New York. In the picture, Nas can be seen staring directly into the camera while 2Pac stands behind him with both his middle fingers in the air.
Pereira is the photographer behind the iconic image. In 2017 he republished the photo and registered it for copyright. According to the suit, Pereira makes his living selling licenses to his famed photos, and Nas sharing the photo online for free caused the value of the image to decrease. The photographer also feels that “The World Is Yours” rapper benefited from the image and gained an increase in his social media stats after posting the photo. Pereira is suing for unspecified damages plus an injunction against Nas for using his work without his permission.
What are your thoughts on this entire situation? Do you think Nas should face consequences for posting the copyrighted image to his IG? Tell us below!
