Update: Mystikal Pleads Not Guilty In Rape Case, Rapper Claims He’s The ‘True Victim’

Update #2: Sept 19th: According to new reports, today (Sept. 19) Mystikal pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of raping and choking a woman, and illegally possessing drugs at his home. He’s facing life in prison if convicted of first-degree rape. In a released statement, Mystikal’s lawyer said,

“my client is innocent of all charges.”

The attorney, Joel Pearce, added that the Grammy-nominated rapper had a court order to protect him from the woman, and he is

“the true victim.”

In addition to that, Pearce said he hopes he will be allowed to present evidence granting a bond for Mystikal.

Update #1: Sept 7th: New details have been released concerning Mystikal. The 51-year-old has reportedly been indicted on a charge of first-degree rape stemming from an alleged incident in which he sexually assaulted and held a woman against her will at his Baton Rouge-area home in late July. If convicted, the rape charge comes with a mandatory life sentence under state law.

He also faces nine additional criminal counts including criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, robbery, and several drug-related offenses, according to The New Orleans Advocate. He remains incarcerated at the Ascension Parish Prison and is being held without bail.

Original Story Aug. 3rd: New details have surfaced surrounding Mystikal’s rape charges.

In a bond hearing that took place on Tuesday, Aug 2, a judge ruled that Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, will be held without bond. According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the rapper will be placed in general population. As previously reported, Mystikal was arrested Sunday, July 31, for first-degree rape, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery (strangulation), simple robbery, and simple criminal damage to property.

According to reports, Mystikal shook his head in disagreement during the hearing. Roy Maughan, Mystikal’s attorney said.

“We’re extremely disappointed that the judge decided he needed to hold Mr. Tyler [Mystikal] without bond.”

The arrest warrant, which detailed the assault, stated an acquaintance was visiting Mystikal’s home when the rapper accused her of stealing $100 in cash from him. Allegedly the situation escalated and the rapper attacked the woman; punching, choking, pulling braids out of her hair, and taking her keys/phone to prevent her from leaving.

It is also reported the woman described Mystikal as going through bizarre mood swings, one moment berating her over the missing money and the next being extremely apologetic. Reportedly, at one point during the attack, Mystikal asked the woman if he could feel her. However, when she refused, Mystikal reportedly pushed the victim onto a bed and allegedly raped her.

Donovan Jackson of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said,

“The victim did meet him at his home and there was some discussion about finances potentially. And from there, that conversation went very far left and it’s what led to the situation where he assaulted that victim. And then, he did eventually force her to give him some money. So, we know that he did know her, and it did transpire at his home.”

After the assault, the report stated Mystikal again demanded the woman return the missing money through CashApp. While she was setting up the payment, Mystikal allegedly took her phone, entered the amount of $150, and sent the payment to himself before allowing her to leave.

Allegedly, as the woman drove away, she phoned a friend who agreed to meet her at the hospital where a sexual assault kit was performed and deputies found injuries consistent with her description of the attack.

Mystikal has been accused of sexual assault twice in the past. He spent six years in prison for similar allegations in 2004. He was also arrested in 2017 however, those charges were eventually dropped.
