MC Lyte Granted Ownership Of Music Catalog Amid Divorce Settlement
MC Lyte, 52, is single again!
MC Lyte’s marriage to John Wyche was a short one dissolved due to “irreconcilable differences.” The rap icon filed for divorce from her husband John Wyche in August 2020 after three years of marriage. The official court documents read:
“Irreconcilable differences have arisen between the parties, which have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.”
According to reports, the initial prenup agreement will be upheld and as for separate property between the estranged couple, MC Lyte, born Lana Moorer, will be keeping all of it. The documents added:
“MC Lyte keeps her clothing, jewelry, watches, and personal effects in her possession, custody, or control, and earnings and accumulations before the date of marriage, during the marriage, and post-separation, her Subaru, financial accounts in her name, all furniture, furnishings, and other personal property in her possession, custody, or control. She also gets to keep her term life insurance policy.”
The “Lyte As A Rock” rapper, who became successful in the 90s as a female emcee, was granted permission to keep all her music catalogs and other creative property during the divorce. On top of that, each party is waiving their right to spousal support. The Grammy-nominated artist met her husband on Match.com and married in August of 2017 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. John Wyche claimed he had no clue that he was dating a celebrity until his friend advised him to google her. In a previous interview he said:
“At that moment I asked the Lord for my wife for the first time. The following week I met Lana.”
Last August the former marine seemingly didn’t want to sign the papers to let the Brooklyn native free. As previously reported, she admitted:
“I’m actually still going through it.”
At the time, she shared:
“I think when the press got a hold of it I think people thought we were [still together]. I had just filed. So we’re still going through it right now.”
After sharing that she was distraught in the beginning, she added:
“It’s hard in the beginning, but when you realize to have happiness doesn’t mean that you have to remain together, and it doesn’t mean that you are a failure because the marriage failed. It’s all ego so you just have to be able to let go.”
She also said that Wyche was holding up the process “because he doesn’t want to sign the papers.”
