Young Thug Co-Defendant Allegedly Injured During Scuffle w/ Deputy
One of the 14 defendants in Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial is accusing a Fulton County deputy of assaulting and injuring them.
On Monday (Jan. 23), defense attorney Angela D’Williams told WSB-TV that her client, Rodalius Ryan, was punched in the head and fell on the sidewalk while he was waiting to be transported from the jail to the courthouse earlier that day. Ryan’s attorney said the incident left him with injuries to his legs, hands, and head. There were also concerns about him suffering a possible concussion.
On the other hand, sheriffs have a different recollection of what took place. According to an incident report, Rodalius Ryan was spitting in the patrol car, and “has been an ongoing problem.” Deputy Kandakai Morris allegedly told Ryan to stop spitting in the vehicle and that he would have to clean it up. Ryan allegedly replied: “I’m not cleaning up sh*t” before spitting again, hitting Morris in the face with his spit.
Deputy Morris then claimed that he walked to the rear passenger side door, opened it, and asked Ryan to exit the vehicle, but Ryan did not comply. When the deputy reached inside the patrol car to remove Ryan, the defendant allegedly refused and laid his body flat in the backseat. According to Deputy Morris, Ryan then began to kick his legs. The deputy said he then grabbed Ryan’s ankle, pulled him from the seat, and put him on the ground.
However, attorney D’Williams claimed that her client was dragged out of the vehicle, resulting in his head hitting the sidewalk. She also accused Deputy Morris of purposely “agitating” her client, and plans to file a formal complaint against the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to reports, Rodalius Ryan faces charges of misdemeanor simple assault and obstruction of police over the incident. He is currently serving life in prison for a 2019 murder and has been charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act in the YSL indictment.
As you may already know, Atlanta rapper Young Thug and 28 associates, including fellow rapper Gunna, were arrested in May 2022 on conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Prosecutors claim Thug is a co-founder of the alleged street gang YSL. The indictment also gives a detailed account of various violent crimes alleged members of YSL are accused of, in addition to documents, social media posts, and rap lyrics by Thug that reference YSL.
Young Thug remains in jail as many of his associates, including rapper Gunna, have been released after taking plea deals.
