Tory Lanez Pens Emotional Letter To District Attorney Pleading For A New Trial In Meagan Thee Stallion Shooting: I was convicted of a crime I didn’t commit!
It looks like Tory Lanez is pleading for his innocence.
The Canadian rapper took to Instagram on Friday (Apr. 21) to share an open letter he penned to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. In the letter, he asks Gascón to grant his request for a new trial, which was filed in March and will be decided on May 8.
He calls out the district attorney’s office for prosecutorial misconduct. The convicted felon says he’s imprisoned for a crime he “did not commit.”
He wrote in part,
“Today I take a stance as an innocent Black Man, wrongfully convicted of a crime I DID not commit.”
The letter accused Deputy D.A.’s Kathy Ta and Alex Bott of
“unlawfully [misusing] their authority to hide and suppress any and all exculpatory evidence that exonerates me, or furthers my innocence. “
Tory Lanez says he was “deprived” of a fair trial.
On May 8 Tory Lanez and his legal team will argue a motion for a new trial and the rapper says he owes it to his family, friends and fans to fight for his freedom.
In the post’s caption, Lanez suggests that he will share material that will prove his innocence.
“Until my court date I’ll be posting the OUTRAGEOUS & DISGUSTING INJUSTICES used against me by the PROSECUTION to get the conviction they so DESPERATELY wanted, DESPITE the evidence they knew existed.”
As previously reported, last December, a jury found Tory Lanez — real name Daystar Peterson — guilty of three felonies — assault with a semiautomatic firearm, vehicle possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence — for shooting Megan in the feet back in 2020.
Earlier this week, Megan Thee Stallion broke her silence on Lanez’s guilty verdict. The Houston rapper says she initially planned to handle the shooting incident privately, but that went out the window once Tory Lanez went public with his side of things. Megan said when she finally revealed the truth about who harmed her, she was “drained” by the false narrative created by her abuser.
“By the time I identified my attacker, I was completely drained. Many thought I was inexplicably healed because I was still smiling through the pain, still posting on social media, still performing, still dancing, and still releasing music.”
When Tory Lanez was given a guilty verdict for his actions Megan was able to have a sigh of relief.
“When the guilty verdict came on Dec. 23, 2022, it was more than just vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them.”
