Chilli Reflects On Her Relationship w/ Usher & How It Took Years For Them To ‘Get Over’ One Another: ‘We Definitely Had Some Chemistry’
Chilli is reflecting on her previous relationship with Usher.
During a recent interview, the TLC member took a trip down memory lane and got candid about her past relationship with Usher. She admits that while they had great chemistry, that wasn’t enough to sustain the relationship which spanned from 2001-2004.
“We definitely had some chemistry. But working chemistry does not mean it works in your personal life. If we were working, it was great. But outside of that, we’re so different.”
Chilli says that even though they looked great together, the reality of their relationship was much different.
“It looked great, but in real life … he knew he had to be a certain way with me and he couldn’t.”

The “Creep” singer admits that despite them calling it quits, they still dated on and off for years, reconnecting when they weren’t in other relationships.
“I love hard, I was like, ‘God, why can’t I get over this?’ He couldn’t either.”
However, Chilli eventually cut ties for good with her ex in 2019 to focus on herself.
She adds,
“I even stopped dating. Because before that I thought if I met the right guy during that time that I wasn’t over [Usher] it wouldn’t work. I would never want to straddle the fence.”
When it comes to Usher, Chilli says she has “no hard feelings.” In fact, she says that it helped prepare her for her new relationship with actor Matthew Lawrence. Focusing on her current romance, Chilli admits,
“I have never experienced anything like this.”

This marks her first high-profile relationship since being with Usher.
Matthew Lawrence previously gushed about his musical boo and what an amazing mother she’s been, admitting he’d be “lucky” to have children with the singer. He stated:
“She’s already a mother, she has an incredible son. I respect so much as to how she’s raised him…She’d be an incredible mother again and I’d be incredibly lucky but that’s way in the future.”
Although it’s only been a short time since their romance began, sources have shared the two seem to be smitten with one another. Reportedly, the entertainers became exclusive back in November of last year following a short vacation together in Hawaii. A few months later the pair went public on social media, posting an adorable dance video together wearing a matching pajama set.
