Tory Lanez – Appellate Court Rejects Rapper’s Request To Disqualify Judge Set To Sentence Him Next Week For Shooting Megan Thee Stallion
Tory Lanez’s attempt to get a new judge over his case for shooting mega rap star Megan Thee Stallion has failed.
The Canadian native’s legal team recently asked the California Court of Appeal to disqualify the judge – Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford – who rejected their motion for a new trial. You may recall that a couple of months ago Tory Lanez’s attorneys filed a motion to have his guilty conviction overturned, claiming he didn’t receive a fair trial.

After the motion was rejected, they claimed Judge Herriford wasn’t impartial and (quietly) filed a petition to disqualify him from the case. However, the judge denied any bias against Tory Lanez. In court documents, he wrote,
“I am not prejudiced or biased against or in favor of any party to this proceeding or their counsel,”
He added,
“All rulings made by me in this action have been based upon facts and arguments officially presented to me and upon my understanding of the law … All statements made by me and all actions taken by me in this proceeding have been done in furtherance of what I believe were my judicial duties.”
Well, it looks like the Appellate Court agrees with Judge Herriford. According to court documents obtained by legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff, it’s been decided that,
“The petition for writ of mandate and request for stay are denied for failure to demonstrate entitlement to extraordinary relief.”
Judge David Herriford will sentence Lanez next Tuesday (Jun. 13).

Prosecutors want the “Proud Family” artist to serve 13 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. According to the memorandum filed Tuesday (Jun. 6), Lanez’s “campaign of misinformation” was aimed at humiliating and “re-traumatizing” Megan Thee Stallion.
Prosecutors believe Lanez,
“not only lacks remorse, he is clearly incapable of accepting any responsibility for his own actions.”
