Tory Lanez’s Former Lawyer Reportedly Advised Him Against Blaming Megan Thee Stallion’s Ex-Friend Kelsey Harris For Infamous 2020 Shooting

New information has surfaced regarding Tory Lanez’s controversial defense in the shooting incident involving rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

In a series of emails obtained by legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff, R&B star Tory Lanez’s ex-attorney, Shawn Holley, seemingly pushed against her client’s decision to claim that Megan Thee Stallion’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, fired the gun.

As previously reported, in 2020 Tory Lanez was accused of striking Megan Thee Stallion in her foot after the pair (+ Kelsey Harris) left a party at reality phenomenon Kylie Jenner’s home. The occurrence resulted in nationwide media coverage, with many narratives thrust to the forefront.

Ultimately, in December 2022, a California jury found Lanez guilty of three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, vehicle possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Since the ruling, the “Say It” crooner has (seemingly) pulled out all the stops to prove his innocence, including bringing on new representation, lawyers Jose Baez and Matthew Barhoma.

Earlier this year, Lanez’s team attempted to seek an appeal, arguing that he didn’t receive a fair trial due to improper evidence and violation of the defendant’s rights, which was rejected by Judge David Herriford.

Now… as Lanez and his agents continue to battle it out in court, more details have been unveiled about the case. Upon Jose Baez and Matthew Barhoma’s urging, Lanez waived his attorney-client privilege, opening up a slew of documents that have now been released.

Exclusively revealed by Meghann Cuniff, in the recently-exposed messages, Lanez’s old representative, Shawn Holley, expressed her disapproval of arguing Kelsey Harris was responsible for the shots that hit Stallion.

In November 2022, she reportedly wrote,

“Tory, as we discussed on Saturday, I am not comfortable advancing the ‘[Kelsey Harris] defense,’ primarily because I don’t find it to be a viable strategy.”

Shawn Holley continued by mentioning Lanez’s driver, Jaquan Smith’s, stance in the situation, along with his trial defender, George Mgdesyan. She said,

“I don’t believe my position will change unless [Jaquan Smith] is persuasive in the preview of his testimony and you are persuasive under mock cross-examination by George [Mgdesyan] and/or Lisa. Even if both of those benchmarks (Quan/you) were to be satisfied, I am still not certain that I would be willing to go forward.”

Eventually, Holley withdrew from Lanez’s case after there were accusations of her aiding Lanez in facilitating a deal with Kelsey Harris to finance her business in order to gain favor.

Lanez still maintains that his hands are clean in the shooting of Stallion. In March, he denied ever leaving a comment online that debunked rumors of Harris being the shooter. According to Lanez, the statement was made by a social media manager of his (at the time).

As of now, the 30-year-old Canadian awaits sentencing after it was pushed back… yet again. Currently, the new date is set for August 7.
