Nelly Sells Half Of His Music Catalog For $50M
Nelly is the latest artist to cash in big over their music catalog.
Rapper Nelly is no stranger to being in the public eye. The 48-year-old started his rap career in 1993 and signed his first major record deal – with Universal Records – in 1999. He eventually worked his way up the music charts and became a household name thanks to his countless hits such as “Dilemma,” “Hot In Herre,” “Just A Dream,” and “Air Force Ones.”
Due to the popularity of his music, it should come as no surprise that throughout his career, Nelly has earned three Grammys and nine Billboard Music Awards. However, you may be a little shocked to learn that his classic tracks have recently scored him an eight-figure payout!
According to reports, the Texas native has entered a deal with a company named HarbourView Equity Partners for 50% ownership over his entire music catalog. The sale includes eight of Nelly’s albums and a ton of his top singles. Reportedly, Nelly signed on the dotted line for a whopping $50 million.
Nelly isn’t the only artist who has sold rights to their music for a nice check. As previously reported, earlier this year news broke that Justin Bieber sold 100% of his publishing to Hipgnosis Songs in a deal reportedly priced at a little over $200 million.
More recently, in March it was reported that producer Metro Boomin inked a deal of nearly $70 million with Shamrock Capital over part of his catalog.
