Update: Travis Scott’s Concert At Egyptian Pyramids Of Giza Officially Canceled, Despite Reps Denying Authorities Had Concerns Over Safety & ‘Strange Rituals’

Update: (Jul. 26, 2023): Looks like Travis Scott’s Egyptian fans won’t be seeing him live in concert on July 28 after all.

As previously reported, last week claims surfaced that Travis Scott’s performance at Egypt’s historic Pyramids of Giza was canceled. Initial reports said that the Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions — a local group of authorities responsible for approving concert permits — refused to grant a license for the concert due to safety concerns and the entertainer’s alleged “satanic” beliefs.

In part, the statement said,

“Based on research and documented information about strange rituals at Travis’s concerts that are inconsistent with our authentic societal values and traditions, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel the license issued to hold this type of concert that contradicts the cultural identity of the Egyptian people.”

A rep for Travis quickly denied claims that the event was axed. However, Live Nation shared an update today (Jul. 26), confirming that there’s been a change of plans. According to the company, the event was pulled but they said it was because,

“complex production issues meant that the show could not be constructed in the desert.”

Original story: (Jul. 18, 2023): Was rapper Travis Scott’s upcoming concert in Egypt actually canceled?

According to reports, Travis Scott’s performance at Egypt’s historic Pyramids of Giza — set to take place on Friday, July 28 — has been canceled. Allegedly, the Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions — a local group of authorities responsible for approving concert permits — will not provide a license for the 32-year-old entertainer’s show, which was reportedly meant to mark the debut of his fourth album “Utopia.”

The “Utopia” concert seemingly sparked widespread controversy due to safety concerns and Travis Scott’s “satanic” beliefs. In a statement, the Syndicate noted that Scott’s concert would go against the values and traditions of Egyptian culture. They also said that taking the proper security measures is their top priority when holding public events.

The statement reads,

“Since the General Syndicate is part of the fabric of this beloved country, it is keen on its stability and security and refuses to tamper with societal values, and Egyptian and Arab customs and traditions.”

The statement then goes on to slam “strange rituals at Travis’s concerts,” seemingly in an attempt to describe the fatal crowd crush at Scott’s 2021’s Astroworld music festival, which left 10 concertgoers dead.

“Based on research and documented information about strange rituals at Travis’s concerts that are inconsistent with our authentic societal values and traditions, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel the license issued to hold this type of concert that contradicts the cultural identity of the Egyptian people.”

Despite recent reports, sources close to the rap star are denying that the “Utopia” concert is canceled. Earlier today (July 18) Scott’s representatives claimed that the show has not been axed. In addition, the concert’s promoter Live Nation shared in a statement,

“There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt; any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate ‘Utopia’ with you in Egypt!”
