Prince’s Ex-Wife Lands Deal To Have Her Memoir, “The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince”, Turned Into A Movie About Their Marriage

A new movie chronicling the life of famed musician Prince is headed to production soon.

Mayte Garcia, who was previously married to the singer, reportedly singed a deal with a movie studio recently to have her memoir about the ex couple’s marriage made into a movie.

The 49-year-old dancer and singer posted about the project to her instagram page recently, writing:

“Overjoyed to finally be able to share this news with you!!!! #themostbeautiful.”

Reportedly, Crazy Legs Features inked the deal to turn the New York Times best selling novel into a film. Named after Prince’s 1995 record “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World”, allegedly written about his soon to be wife, the book was released in 2017. Mayte Garcia reportedly wrote about her marriage to Prince, which lasted from 1996-2000.  Being 16 years his junior, Garcia explains that she met the 7x Grammy award winning during one of his concerts in 1990 at the age of 16 when he was 32. The “Purple Rain” singer reportedly courted her for years and became her legal guardian in the process before they tied the knot.

According to Garcia, the pair shared a beautiful artistic relationship that started as a friendship and blossomed into romance. The entertainer says after the loss their newborn son to a rare genetic disorder called Pfeiffer syndrome type 2, the marriage came to an inevitable end. During a previous interview discussing the novel, she reportedly stated:

“I don’t think he ever got over it…I meet a lot of people and I’ve learned that not many couples make it after the loss of a child. And then when you have another one, that was really hard on us.”

At this time, there have been no details shared about when the movie is expected to come to theaters. However, both Crazy Legs and Garcia have shared their excitement to bring the project to life. The movie studio’s CEO reportedly said in a statement:

“Prince is one of our generation’s most electrifying, charismatic, and enigmatic personalities…We are honored that Mayte has chosen us to bring her moving, candid memoir to life and bring to the screen a rare window to an artist that changed my life and the lives of tens of millions of fans around the world. We are eager to start developing this project.” 

With Garcia adding:

“Crazy Legs is a perfect partner to bring this deeply personal reflection of my life with Prince to the screen…their diverse body of work shows an artistry and craft to tell personal stories about the most complex, most beautiful human beings. This film will provide an intimate look at the man I loved, our life together, and his lasting influence.”
