Jordan Peele Draws Major Criticism After Signing Letter Seemingly In Support Of Israel Amid Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: ‘How Do You Make A Film Like Get Out & Then Be Completely Oblivious?’

Filmmaker Jordan Peele is being called out online.

Countless social media users shared their disapproving thoughts recently after it was discovered the “Us” creator was one of many celebs who signed a pinned letter in support of Israel amid their polarizing war.

The letter, sent to President Joe Biden, allegedly condemned the reported terrorist group Hamas and demanded they release all hostages. In case you’re unfamiliar with the situation, the nation of Israel responded to a terrorist attack from the Palestinian aggressors that happened on October 7th, which saw them launch a missile attack that resulted in the death of hundreds of Israeli citizens. Since, the Middle Eastern country has relentlessly dropped bombs on the Gaza Strip where over 1 million Palestinian citizens reside, in efforts to snuff out the Hamas militants.

However, the war has sparked protests all over the world as more than 4,000 innocent Palestinians have been caught in the crossfire of Israel’s attacks. Many believe the war is an insidious effort to cleanse the Arab people totally so that Israel can reclaim the land for itself. Views on the situation have been completely polarizing. On one hand, you have many, including the US President, who argue Israel has a right to defend itself. On the other, you have those who believe that Hamas was only born out of the decades of oppression Palestinians have lived under.

Every day citizens and celebrities alike have weighed in on the issue. While one letter sent to President Biden in support of Palestinians included signatures from celebs such as Kehlani, Jessica Chastain, and Yara Shahidi; another letter, signed by celebs such as Jordan Peele, Chris Rock, and Katy Perry, expressed their support for Israel to continue until the remaining captives have been freed.

Peele’s signature on the letter backing Israel specifically sparked widespread backlash. As a filmmaker whose stories almost always focus on the negative impact of capitalism, colonialism, and oppression, many were shocked to see where he placed his alliance. Fans of the entertainer didn’t hold back their disappointment when discussing the matter online.

One user wrote:

“Just clocked that Jordan Peele also signed that letter. Why am I never allowed to have nice things? And how do you make a film like Get Out and then be completely oblivious to how systemic oppression works??”

While another, pointing out that his Jewish wife Chelsea Peretti is seemingly against the war, added:

“Jordan Peele signed it but Chelsea Peretti (his Jewish wife) didn’t. Veryyyy interesting.”

Others seem to share the same feelings.

It does not seem that Peele has responded to the criticism at this time.
