The actor shared his excitement recently after it was announced he’ll be joining the forthcoming biopic “Michael“, about the life of pop sensation Michael Jackson, and also praised his co-star Jaafar Jackson.

Speaking about being tapped for the role of the singer’s complicated father Joe Jackson, Colman Domingo reportedly stated:
“I’m excited to be a part of a film that explores both the complicated soul of the legendary Michael Jackson as well as his impact on music and culture as a global icon. Not only am I fortunate to have a rich, complex and flawed character to portray in Joe Jackson, but I also have a front row seat for Jaafar’s incredible transformation.”

As we’ve previously covered, Michael’s very own nephew Jaafar Jackson snagged the starring role, and will portray his late uncle during his rise to international stardom. Domingo also shared his excitement for the world to see Jaafar’s performance, all but guaranteeing it will be an instant classic. He reportedly stated elsewhere in the interview:
“It’s exciting to do it with Jaafar…Jermaine Jackson’s son is playing Michael, and he is breathtaking, and I think Graham King, the producer, has assembled an incredible cast.”

Reportedly, producers are hoping that Domingo’s addition to the project will continue to build anticipation. Fresh off of his first ever Oscar nomination for his work on the Netflix comedy-drama “Rustin”, the 54-year-old certainly brings attention to the coming film. As far as the character he’s portraying, Joe Jackson was widely viewed as a controversial figure in Michael’s success story. Though he launched his children, famously known as The Jackson 5, to fame at young ages, his family has never been necessarily shy when speaking about the physical and mental abuse they endured from him, despite him being an integral role in their achievements.

Part of the Jackson’s story, which also touched on the alleged abuse, was seen in the 1992 mini-series “The Jacksons: An American Dream”. The show starred Angela Bassett as the matriarch Catherine Jackson and Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs in the role of Joe.
However, it seems the new Antoine Fuqua directed project will be the first time a story will solely follow Michael’s life. The biopic is reportedly slated to be released in theaters April 18, 2025.
