Shaquille O’Neal Reflects On Making ‘A Lot Of Dumba** Mistakes To Where I Lost My Family’: ‘I Didn’t Have Anybody’
Shaquille O’Neal is urging a fellow star athlete to cherish his family before he loses it.
Serving as a guest on a recent installment of The Big Podcast with Shaq, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce opened up about the idea of retirement and considered what his life would be like after football.
The retired NBA legend had a few heartfelt words for the NFL star as he reflected on his own life.
“My advice to you is if you are going to retire, accept it, enjoy your family brother.”
He continued,
“I made a lot of dumba** mistakes to where I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody. That’s not the case for you. So enjoy your beautiful wife, enjoy your beautiful kids, and never dwell on what we had. What we had is what we got, you got the ring, people know who you are. Enjoy it.”
Shaquille O’Neal, who was married to Shaunie Henderson (formerly O’Neal) from 2002 to 2011, shared,
“I was an idiot … I lost my whole family … been in a 100,000 square foot house by myself. But again, the way I was raised: stop, man up, deal with it … that’s my advice to you.”
This isn’t the first time Shaquille O’Neal has expressed regret over losing Shaunie Henderson. The exes share four children: Shareef, Shaqir, Amirah and Me’arah. Shaquille O’Neal is also a father figure to Shaunie Henderson’s son Myles from a previous relationship. He also fathered daughter Taahirah with his ex-girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh.
Looking back at his life, Shaq said while on The Pivot Podcast in April 2022,
“I have two wonderful women that have given me beautiful, gorgeous children. I have to protect and I have to provide and I have to love them forever.”

He added of Shaunie, who married pastor Keion Henderson in 2022,
“I was bad. She was awesome. It was all me. We don’t need to talk about what I was doing but I was not protecting her and protecting those vows. Sometimes when you live that double life you get caught up. I’m not gonna say it was her, it was all me. She did exactly what she was supposed to do and gave me beautiful kids, took care of the house, and took care of corporate stuff. It was all me.”
