J. Cole Drops Surprise Kendrick Lamar Diss Track: ‘He Averagin’ Like 1 Hard Verse Like Every 30 Months’
Update (April 5, 2024): J. Cole is firing back at Kendrick Lamar after his “Like That” diss. The “Middle Child” rapper, 39, surprised fans when he dropped an album, Might Delete Later, on Thursday night, April 4.
In the final track “7 Minute Drill,” he doesn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts about the “Humble” lyricist.
J. Cole raps in the now-viral song,
“He still doin’ shows, but fell off like the Simpson’s/ Yo first sh*t was classic, yo last sh*t was tragic/Yo second sh*t put n*ggas to sleep but they gassed it/Yo third sh*t was massive and that was yo prime/I was trailin’ right behind and I just now hit mine.”
He continues,
Now I’m front of the line with a comfortable lead/How ironic, soon as I got it he want somethin’ with me/Well he caught me at the perfect time, jump up and see/Boy, I got here off of bars, not no controversy.”
He later adds in the verse,
“He averagin’ one hard verse like every thirty months or somethin’/If he wasn’t dissin’ then we wouldn’t be discussin’, huh?/Lord, don’t make me have to smoke this n***a ’cause I f*ck with him/But push come to shove, on this mic, I will humble him/I’m Mino with this thing, this that New Jack City meme”
As of Friday morning, the song has nearly 1 million views on YouTube and was No. 23 on iTunes.
Original Story (March 22, 2024): Kendrick Lamar is firing shots at Drake and J. Cole. He’s featured on Future and Metro Boomin’s new album We Don’t Trust You, and sent a message in the song “Like That,” where he raps,
“F*ck sneak dissin’/First-person shooter/I hope they came with three switches.”
The “first-person shooter” line appears to be a reference to Drake’s song “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole. It was released in November from Drake’s For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition. In that song, J. Cole raps in the second verse,
“Love when they argue the hardest MC/Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.”
In Kendrick Lamar’s latest verse, he also raps about the “big 3”, which widely is known as him, Drake, and J. Cole.
“Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/Motherf*ck the Big 3, n***a, it’s just big me.”
And adds,
“‘Fore all your dogs gettin’ buried, that’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”

The release comes just days after Big Sean also shared his own thoughts on the Big 3. He unveiled a song on social media that he wrote while fighting a bad bout of food poisoning at home.
“I think where I lack most as an artist is consistency/I just haven’t had the energy to compete with enemies, or y’all so-called bigger three/But every verse I lay, fans love to say, ‘Man, n***as is sleep!'”
