Willie Jones Shades Fellow Country Artist Shaboozey For Lack Of Diversity In ‘A Bar Song’ Music Video: ‘My Boy Was Lookin’ Like A Fly In A Milk Bowl’
Are two of our favorite cowboys about to have a standoff?
It’s no secret that the world is still riding the wave of Beyoncé’s eighth studio project “Cowboy Carter,” released on March 29. In addition to setting a few records — including being the first album by a Black woman to top the Top Country Albums chart — “Cowboy Carter” shined a bright spotlight on the multiple Black country artists it features. One of those rising musicians, Shaboozey, 28, made his own history this week by dethroning Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” with his song “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” for the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
According to Billboard, this is the first time two Black artists have held the position consecutively! As exciting as this moment may be for Shaboozey, born Collins Chibueze, fellow country artist Willie Jones, 29, is seemingly questioning why the Virginia native is being supported so much. Taking to the internet, Willie Jones, who also appears on “Cowboy Carter,” wrote,
“Congrats but I hope the YTS + the bee hive gone support me like they doin shaboozey lol cause yall seen all them in his video ? Wasn’t not one [brown heart emoji] my boy was lookin like a fly in a milk bowl [fly emoji] [bowl emoji] lol congrats though brother #cowboysliveforever”
After Shaboozey asked if he wanted to “do this here,” Willie Jones replied,
“shid you never pick up the phone you up now …”
He then took a screenshot of the interaction and shared it to the app formerly known as Twitter, X, and said,
“Congrats to [Shaboozey] on the number one but the off the porch is wack as hell… love the song tho”
At the time of this report, it doesn’t look like the two have said more to each other. However, internet users have started to weigh in, with many urging them to work things out away from the public eye.
