André 3000 Admits He ‘Really Can’t Say’ Whether Or Not He & Big Boi Will Release Another Outkast Album
Hip-hop duo Outkast hasn’t released new music in nearly two decades, and André 3000 isn’t sure if that’ll change anytime soon.
The musician recently opened up about the possibility of reuniting with his former bandmate Big Boi, sharing his uncertain thoughts about future collaborations.
During a newly published interview, André 3000 was asked about his current dynamic with Big Boi, in which he shared:
“You know, people always ask about me and Big Boi…We cool, man. That’s my homie forever. We were friends before doing music.”
Continuing, the 9x Grammy Award winner addressed fans’ continued plea that the pair release new music together, adding:
“People ask, so will there be another OutKast album? I really can’t say, man. I do realize that our chemistries have changed. We’re different people. We’re totally different people.”
In case you’re unfamiliar, Outkast is widely regarded as one of the most influential Southern hip-hop acts of all time. Together, members André 3000 and Big Boi achieved massive critical and commercial success from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, boasting several chart toppers such as “Hey Ya!” and “Ms. Jackson.” Their last album together Idlewild was released in 2006.
Since then, Big Boi has released three independent projects, while André debuted his first-ever solo project, a flute-centered instrumental album titled New Blue Sun late last year. As we recently reported, the project received mixed reactions as some longtime fans, including hip-hop vet LL Cool J, hoped that André would once again tap into his rap roots and flaunt his acclaimed lyricism in his return to music.
However, André was candid about feeling as though rap is inauthentic to his life these days. Despite that, he did go on to make it clear that he hasn’t completely ruled out making more music with Big Boi.
He stated:
“Not to say that we won’t be able to make any kind of music, but I think, yeah, people have to realize, like even in relationships, man, husband and wife, chemistry should change after a while. And I think people think there’s this one thing that has to stay a way, but we are ever-changing, man.”
The pair recently reunited during André’s Atlanta stop on his New Blue Sun tour, marking the first time they’ve hit the stage together since 2016.
