Coco Gauff Supports Fellow Tennis Star Naomi Osaka, Assisting Her Off The Court After Injury
Coco Gauff showed incredible sportsmanship when she helped fellow tennis star Naomi Osaka off the court after Osaka was forced to withdraw due to a back injury during the China Open on October 1.
The match took a turn in the second set when Naomi Osaka decided to forfeit, prompting Coco Gauff to lend a hand. In a heartwarming moment captured on video, Coco Gauff approached Naomi Osaka’s bench and asked,
“Are you okay? Do you need any help?”
Osaka, surprised, responded with a hesitant “Really?” Gauff then took one of Osaka’s tennis bags, and together they walked off the court to cheers from the audience.
As the match unfolded, Osaka won the first set 6–3, while Gauff took the second 6–4 before Osaka’s withdrawal led Gauff to advance to the quarterfinals.
This isn’t the first time these two U.S. Open champions have supported each other. In 2019, after their first match, Osaka comforted a teary-eyed Gauff. Fast forward to 2023, when Osaka cheered for Gauff from the stands during her semifinal victory, Gauff expressed her gratitude, saying,
“Naomi, I remember the moment we had on this court … it meant a lot to me.”
